Lecture #51 of 54, CD #433, Date of Lecture: June 8, 2003

Scripture: 2 Samuel 22:1 – 24:9

Abstract: In his final words, David describes the character qualities of a Godly leader. His description is prophetic of Christ. He also recognizes that despite his sins, God has honored him. The Scripture list David’s mighty men and summarizes some of their exploits. God, Satan and David himself provoke David to take a census. David admits his sin of pride, accepting all responsibility. James delves deeply into the details, as usual.

Scripture: 2 Samuel 24:10-25

Abstract: God sends David to sacrifice at Ornan’s threshingfloor. Ornan offered all David needed at no charge, but David insisted on paying. He would not offer to God that which came at no cost to him. James relates to the support received, and/or not received, for his work through Stone Kingdom Ministries. God reveals to David that Ornan’s threshingfloor is where the temple is to be built. It was on Mount Mariah, where Abraham nearly sacrificed his son, Isaac. The building site of God’s final temple is in our bodies. The kingdom is in us.

Scripture: 1 Kings 1

Abstract: We come now to the end of King David’s life. His physicians found a young virgin, Abishag, to excite and warm him. David is too weak to perform sexually, but Abishag nurses him anyway. David’s eldest surviving son, Adonijah, attempts to seize the throne, but is thwarted by Nathan the prophet and Bathsheba. David directs that Solomon be anointed King of Israel.

Part of The Character Of Saul & David Series
Lecture #54 of 54, CD #436, Date of Lecture: July 13, 2003

Scripture: 1 Kings 1:41

Abstract: Adonijah learns that Solomon has been made king and fears for his life, but King Solomon spares him. David charges Solomon how to reign. His instructions are specific, including orders to execute Joab and Shimei and to honor Barzillai. Adonijah craftily tries to seize power, but Solomon, in his God-given wisdom, sees through the deceit and executes Adonijah. He also ties up other loose ends, as David had instructed. And so, the story of Saul and David concludes.
